Montgomery County, VA – The Montgomery County Economic Development Department (MCDED) marks the week of May 9 to May 13, 2022, as Economic Development week, as officially proclaimed by the Montgomery County Board of Supervisors at their April 25, 2022, meeting. During this week, Montgomery County will join communities across North America in celebrating and recognizing the contributions made by professional economic developers to create more economically vibrant and livable communities.
Created in 2016 by International Economic Development Council (IEDC), the largest international professional trade association for economic developers, Economic Development Week aims to increase awareness for local programs that create jobs, advance career development opportunities, and improve the quality of life in communities everywhere.
“Economic development is a crucial component of any thriving community,” said Montgomery County Administrator Craig Meadows. “Montgomery County welcomes the opportunity to celebrate Economic Development Week. Facilitating growth and expansion of both new and existing businesses in our community is vital in continuing to make Montgomery County a great place for our citizens to live and work.”
The MCDED is dedicated to improving the quality of life in Montgomery County by encouraging positive economic growth through strategies that support the startup, retention, and expansion of businesses already in the County, as well as the attraction of new targeted industries to the community.
In 2021, the MCDED visited with 51 separate existing Montgomery County companies through its Business Retention and Expansion (BRE) program. Four companies supported through the program announced or completed an expansion or relocation project by the end of the year. This will result in $28.28 million in total new investment in Montgomery County, as well as 195 new jobs.
