Montgomery County, Virginia – In the July/August 2017 issue of Expansion Solutions magazine, there was an article on how to find, grow, and retain the next generation of technology workers.  The article examined drivers affecting today's technology workforce demand, where to find the technology workers, and how to grow and retain a technology workforce.  Expansion Solutions defined technology workers as information technology workers that include those in the field of software and hardware engineering and mathematics.

Since 90 percent of local economic developers across the country have reported that finding a skilled workforce is a major concern for companies, having a large amount of IT graduates puts Montgomery County in the right position to attract IT and high tech companies.  When looking at the top 25 metros with a high ratio of IT graduates compared to the IT job base in 2015, Blacksburg, VA ranked third.  This ranking was based on Blacksburg having 1,000 IT graduates in 2015 and a ratio of IT graduates to the IT job base of 1:1.
